Our holiday season always begins with the annual toy drive when Santa comes down each street in our neighborhood to collect gifts from boys and girls to give to children who may not receive many gifts. Our daughter loved to listen closely to hear Santa's sleigh bells so she can run out with her gift to give him.
Then the next weekend we enjoyed a lovely breakfast with Santa and he even gave my daughter her own special gift. Later that day, we had a play date with Santa and he took her Christmas wishes, they decorated cookies and Santa read a story to all of the children. Then we enjoyed listening to our daughter and her classmates sing Christmas carols in church at their Christmas Concert.
During the entire season, my daughter and I collected a food item each day and placed it into a large box for people who do have money to purchase their own food. Once we had all the items in the box, my daughter made some Christmas decorations and glued them on the box before we delivered it to her school. Another Christmas tradition we do every year is to make Christmas cookies and a gingerbread house. We had a great time cutting out and decorating the cookies especially playing in the flour! We shared our cookies with all our family and friends.
The highlight of the season was Christmas Eve when we all went to church and our daughter loved singing the Christmas songs. Then we had Gigi and Papa over our house for a delicious ham dinner with all the trimmings. We left cookies and milk for Santa and carrots for the reindeer. On Christmas morning, our daughter was so excited to open all the gifts under the tree. This was such a magical time. Then we enjoyed breakfast together and Gigi and Papa came over for Christmas dinner. We shared stories, played games and had lots of laughter. The best part of Christmas "was spending it with my family," said my daughter.
We ended the season off with a children's New Year's Eve Party. We made noise makers, had a dance party, ate pizza and counted down to a big balloon drop. It was a blast ringing in the new year together. Happy New Year to all.
